Computers in the Workplace
healthcare industry
Hello Class,
For this discussion, I'm choosing the industry of healthcare. It was easy because I have worked for a hospital for the past 18 years. However, I have seen how the computer has recently taken over the healthcare industry. Let me start by discussing one of the more critical things, Patient Privacy Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA). Health informatics is crucial in the healthcare industry because it makes it much more efficient. One significant benefit of cyber-security in the that it helps prevent the leaking of patient information.Another big one is staff reviewing and prescribing medications using electronic health records. They also use EMR systems like Epic to manage patient records and charts. This technology helps staff efficiency and prevents human error; MDs use computers to collect patient information, which can help them make a more accurate diagnosis, especially when multiple doctors provide healthcare to the same patient. With this technology, doctors can see any Patient records from anywhere in the world without any problem. One of the more significant examples I noticed was how a patient from China was talking with his primary MD from China. The PT was in the ER talking live with her Md on one of Pt's triage mobile devices, which was super convenient. Another great example is advanced medical imaging equipment can now create three-dimensional images of body parts. 3D Mammography, 3D ultrasonography, MRI, and 3D x-rays. Staff stores these images in a computer database, making them easier to retrieve later. In this generation, a 5-year-old kid knows how to use a phone, tablet, or PC apparatus. So anyway, any position in the industry of healthcare needs to have some knowledge of computers.
